PROVISION OF LEGAL AID AND ASSISTANCE
By helping survivors to understand their legal rights under international treaties and domestic legislation, they are empowered to take legal action in Kenya, to pursue civil remedies, such as compensation against human traffickers and propagators of modern-day slavery.
Legal aid clinics are undertaken to sensitize and offer free legal advice to members of the public concerning modern slavery, and the available civil and criminal legal remedies against human traffickers. SFT has been able to provide free legal aid clinics in our programmatic areas.
These legal aid clinics have presented us opportunities to bolster existing working relations with governmental agencies and like-minded implementing partners, fostering new associations as well as enhancing the referral systems and assuring an increase in service access uptake to the survivors of modern-day slavery.
We also co-operate with law enforcement in providing information to facilitate pre-trial preliminary investigations and prosecution of human traffickers as well as advocating for survivors to be placed under witness protection. Our activity has started bearing fruits, for the prosecution of human traffickers and perpetrators of modern-day slavery is well underway.
